The Tonga stools were designed by the BaTonga people from Zimbabwe and hand carved from one solid piece of wood. Traditionally these stools were used by aristocrats, elders and nobles as a portable seat. Today they are still used in rural Zimbabwe whilst attending village meetings or ceremonies.
Each stool has its own unique sculptural design.
